Our walks start at 10.30 a.m. usually on the first Sunday of each month, and are a leisurely 3 to 4 miles. We usually have about 15 to 20 walkers and aim to finish between 12.30 and 1.00 p.m. The cost is £2.00.
Details can be obtained from Peter Carbin on 0121 745 7543. If anyone is coming to a walk and finds they are running late, or cannot find the start, they can ring Peter on mobile number 07501 694 761. This number should also be used on the morning if weather conditions are poor.
Sunday 6 August
Our last visit to Studley was over four years ago. This time we will walk in the Sambourne direction. Park in the village car park (B80 7HJ). At the Barley Mow roundabout turn right and follow the road past the village hall to Crooks Lane on the left. A brown sign points to the swimming pool and Car Park. Take the first left into Pool Road, and the car park is towards the end of this road, next to the Medical Centre.
Sunday 3 September
Our early autumn walk is from Whitacre Heath, where the Centenary Way and the Heart of England Way briefly meet up. We meet at The Swan (B46 2JA), a 16th century former coaching inn. From the crossroads in the centre of Coleshill take the B1114 signed to Shustoke. Soon after crossing the River Blythe take the left fork signed to Whitacre Heath, Nether Whitacre and Kingsbury. After a mile or so The Swan is on the right opposite a turning to Lea Marston. The Swan does good food and you can check out their menu at www.theswanwhitacre.co.uk. Booking is advisable.
Sunday 1 October
Fund raising walk – Baddesley Clinton to Dorridge Park
Last year’s fund raising walk to Warwick and back was ambitious and exhausting, so this year a rather more modest all day walk is planned from Baddesley Clinton to Dorridge Park and return.
For those who prefer to just do the normal distance there will be a morning walk as well, but the charge will be the same at £5.00 per walker.
Last year’s walk raised over £100 for the Coastline Appeal, and it would be good to see all our regular and occasional walkers out for this event. Meet in the top car park at Baddesley Clinton at the usual time of 10.30 a.m.
Sunday 5 November
Earlswood Craft Centre
An autumnal walk around Earlswood including the Earlswood Moat House Nature Reserve. Meet at the Earlswood Lakes Craft Centre in Wood Lane B94 5JH. The Manor House Tea Rooms there are open for breakfast from 9.00 a.m. and they also do a selection of cooked lunches. Their menus are on the website: www.manorhousetearrooms.co.uk.
Sunday 3 December
It’s been six years since we last walked from Coughton Court, and this will be a chance to enjoy a morning walk before returning to the property where there will be a very seasonal feel with their Winter Festival.
There will be Christmas shopping in the Coach House gift shop, with the house decorated for a traditional Christmas, locally sourced Christmas lunches and homemade mince pies in the cafe, and a Christmas Market in the Stableyard.
The property may well be busy so a timed ticket will be needed to visit the house and a seat in the restaurant is not guaranteed! We have been given early access to the car park so meet as usual for a 10.30 start.
Sunday 7 January
We stay close to home for our New Year walk, with a stroll in the Shirley area. 1450 homes are planned for the green belt south of Shirley so this is an area likely to change significantly in the not too distant future.
Meet at the Miller & Carter Steakhouse, Tanworth Lane B90 4EA. Details of their menus and booking arrangements are on their website: www.millerandcarter.co.uk/restaurants/east-and-west-midlands/millerandcartersolihull.
