Behind The Scenes – The Roundhouse

On Monday 13 February there will be a special NT Solihull Centre “Behind the Scenes” visit to the Roundhouse in Birmingham. It is being upgraded by the NT and the Canal and River Trust as a visitor attraction opening by 2018, but we have been invited to see what the plans are.

Like the Shugborough visit, this is a special trip, whilst The Roundhouse is not open to the public and under repair/reorganisation. There may be uneven floors and stairs. Level access may be restricted and facilities will be much more basic than usually associated with an NT property. Wear sensible shoes and clothing as there may be little heating available.

As spaces are limited there will be two tours at 10.30 and 1.30 pm restricted to 15 per tour and will last an hour and a half. Members will make own travel arrangements and “entry” tickets will be £5 each, and are of limited availability. There is no parking available there.

For those choosing to travel by train, we will arrange a rendezvous for specific trains from Shirley and Solihull Stations with a further rendezvous at Snow Hill Station which is about a ten minute walk to the Roundhouse.

New Year’s Day walk

New Years DayNew Years Day saw 15 intrepid Centre walkers braving heavy rain and a chill wind to enjoy a stroll around Hampton in Arden. They are pictured looking rather damp at the end of the walk, but everyone was soon reinvigorated by excellent mince pies from Susan Owen and Pauline Tolley, along with a little medicinal port and sherry.
