Teddy Bears’ Picnic

Story time Congratulations to our Families Officer, Amy Kershaw, for an amazing turnout and event. Thanks also to her team of volunteers.

Obviously we have set a precedent and must now follow it up with plenty more.

In spite of rain in the morning we had  more than 100 people, children, parents and grandparents, arrive for picnics, storytelling, face painting and games.

We were blessed with the sun after all.

Special behind the scenes visit to Shugborough

Saturday November 26th 2016.

Those members who attended our AGM will recall the interesting talk we had from Ben Shipston, National Trust Assistant Director, Operations, about the exciting changes occurring at Shugborough as the NT take full control of the estate from the local Council.

Ben invited us to come and see what they are up to – and we have taken him up on his offer!!!

So the NT Solihull Centre has arranged a special trip in November to see the closed Shugborough before it opens as a full NT property in Spring 2017.

A coach is being laid on, details to follow later in the year.

This really will be a special trip, whilst Shugborough is closed and under repair/reorganisation. So there will be uneven floors and stairs. Level access may be restricted and facilities may be more basic than usually associated with an NT property and there may be little heating available too. So this is not going to be a trip for the faint hearted!

As the House is all closed up and there will be no café facilities at Shugborough, the plan is to stop off in Stafford for lunch afterwards.

Further information and booking details will be available by late August, but perhaps worth making a note of the date?

“Behind the scenes” tours of NT properties are one of the Solihull Centre’s new initiatives. We are in the early stages of arranging one to the Birmingham Roundhouse in February 2017 and hopefully one to Croome Park later in 2017.
